We love Grand Haven’s Coast Guard Festival

Grand Haven Michigan is a beautiful place, and one of our favorite summer activities is attending the annual Coast Guard Festival! The Coast Guard Festival is the largest gathering of Coast Guard personnel in the country. It’s a great time to see the Coast Guard in action and learn more about their mission. There are also many fun activities for kids, including face painting and games like duck pond bowling.

The best place to be in the summer!

You can’t miss the largest multi-day festival in West Michigan. It’s held every year on the first weekend in August and gives you a chance to enjoy all things Coast Guard!

  • Coast Guard Festival Parade – The Parade is the highlight of our celebration and features many decorated vehicles from across Michigan, Illinois, Indiana and Ohio.
  • Coast Guard Festival Fireworks – It wouldn’t be a summertime celebration without fireworks! There will be a spectacular fireworks show over Lake Michigan at dusk on Saturday night.
  • Coast Guard Festival Air Show – The airshow is one of our most popular events at this year’s festival with performances by some very talented pilots both young and old!
  • Coast Guard Festival Carnival – Come play games with your friends or try out your luck at carnival games for that special prize you’ve been wanting so badly! We have everything from toss bags to ring tosses along with some fun inflatables for kids of all ages to enjoy during their stay here in Grand Haven during this annual event held every summer since 1952! You won’t want to miss out on some great deals while shopping around town too!

Can’t make it to Coastguard? Or, are you looking for more Grand Haven fun? Here are some of our other favorite summer activities in Grand Haven, Michigan!

Summertime concerts

In Grand Haven, there’s no better way to spend a summer evening than listening to some live music on the beach. The boardwalk hosts free concerts in the evenings during the summer months, and they are well-attended by locals and tourists alike. Popular bands that perform include well-known musicians like The Band Perry and Billy Currington.

Arts and crafts festivals

There are a number of art and crafts festivals held in downtown Grand Haven. These events are great for the entire family, with something for everyone to enjoy.

  • The Art on the Beach Festival takes place every July. A juried art show features painting, photography, glasswork, sculpture and more from artists from all over Michigan and beyond—including Canada! As you stroll along Lake Michigan’s shoreline while enjoying some delicious food or ice cream made by local businesses like Sweetwater’s (a staple since 1881), you’ll have the chance to meet with some of these talented artists and purchase their work directly from them if you’re so inclined.
  • The Fourth Friday Art Walk is another popular event which takes place on the fourth Friday of every month during summertime: June through September (with an extended November version). This event combines visual arts exhibits at more than 20 different locations throughout downtown Grand Haven with live music played by local bands; all taking place within walking distance of each other so that there is plenty to do no matter where y’all end up!

Farmer’s market

Every Saturday morning, the Grand Haven Village offers a farmer’s market with fresh fruit and vegetables, local crafts and art. The market is open from 8am to 1pm, so it’s a great place to pick up some healthy food for lunch or a snack for later in the day.

One of our favorite things about this market is that there are many vendors who sell specialty foods like jams, jellies and salsa as well as prepared meals from local restaurants such as Da Yoopers Pasty Shoppe & Café or the Beachside Bar & Grill. It’s also a good place for families because there are plenty of activities for children including face painting (which costs $2 per person) or picking up some free books at one of our book exchanges (we have three located throughout West Michigan).

The best part about this market is that every single dollar goes back into our community! So if you’re looking to support local businesses while also supporting yourself then this should definitely be on your list of things to do while visiting beautiful Grand Haven Michigan!

Kayaking, boating, and more on the lake

Anyone with a boat of their own can drop anchor in one of the many lakeside marinas and take in sights like the Grand Haven Lighthouse. If you don’t have your own vessel, no worries—renting a boat is another option! You can rent boats at the beach, the park, or even at local marinas.

You’ll find plenty of opportunities for boating and kayaking on Lake Michigan. The water here is calm enough for beginners to get started, but also exciting enough for experienced sailors to explore its depths. It’s also home to many shipwrecks that make for great diving spots (and maybe even some buried treasure).

If you’re not much of a swimmer or if you just want something different from swimming alone in Lake Michigan all summer long, there are lots of other fun things to do around town that don’t require being submerged in water all day long (or night long).

We hope you enjoyed reading about Grand Havenb’s Coast Guard Festival, and all the other great things to do this summer in Grand Haven Michigan. If you have any questions or comments, feel free to email information@bprealtypro.com !
